GENERAL TRAVEL GRANTS - KORNER FUND

The University of Sussex have generously donated their Korner Travelling Fellowship Fund to join our grants portfolio. This fund was originally set up to commemorate the life and work of Professor Asher Korner (1929-1971), the first Professor of Biochemistry in the University of Sussex. The remaining funds will now be offered as an extension to our General Travel Grant scheme, and are open to students and early career members who are working within the UK or Republic of Ireland to make collaborative visits to overseas laboratories. Funding of up to £2,000 will be available to contribute towards travel, accommodation, and subsistence costs.  

Application deadlines

Applications are considered 3 times a year, the deadlines for which are:

  • 1 March for visits anytime after 1 April
  • 1 June for visits anytime after 1 July
  • 1 September for visits anytime after 1 October

Please note the outcome of applications will be sent to applicants three to four weeks after the application deadline of the round that has been applied to.

Key grant details

To be eligible to apply:

  • Applicants must be an Undergraduate, Postgraduate, or Early Career Member of the Biochemical Society.
  • This scheme is open to those currently working within the UK or Republic of Ireland.
  • Applicants need to have been a member for at least the 12 months prior to the deadline on the closing date of the round applied to. If you are not a member, join todayMembers that have joined as multiyear members are eligible to apply for a General Travel Grant - Korner Fund after six months of membership has elapsed.
  • Applicants must not have received one of the following Society grants in the two years before the closing date of the round applied to: General Travel Grants, International Sponsored Places, or Travel Award for Skills and Knowledge.
  • Applicants must not have received one of the following Society grants in the 12 months before the closing date of the round applied to: Student Bursary, Early Career Bursary, or Full Member Bursary.
  • Applicants need to provide a summary of the intended work to be undertaken during the lab visit.

Successful recipients must provide a meeting report and photograph, which may be used in The Biochemist, our magazine.
